On the 29th July, Master was invited to the Old Bailey for a tour and lunch as a guest of Sheriff David Chalk. Master was greeted by former non-Aldermanic Sheriff Fiona Adler who took him to meet the host and other guests including Susan Langley, Lord Mayor-presumptive.
After a short reception, the party was escorted to the Judges’ Dining Room for a two-course luncheon and Master had the pleasure of being seated between a police member of the women’s City football team and Judge Phillip Katz, both of whom providing entertaining conversation.
After lunch the party visited the main part of the beautiful building including a visit to No 1 Court Room and stood in the dock where Ruth Ellis was sentenced to hang in the late fifties.
After a fascinating and enjoyable afternoon it was on the train back to Manchester.
