A Magical Send-Off: Waving Off the 2026 Magical Taxi Tour
Early on Friday, 25th September, I had the absolute privilege of representing our Livery at Canary Wharf to witness the spectacular send-off for the Magical Taxi Tour.
Organised by the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers, this incredible annual charity event is now in its 31st year. Its mission is simple: to give over 200 children suffering from chronic, life-limiting illnesses a three-day trip of a lifetime to Disneyland Paris.
The atmosphere before dawn was electric. Nearly 100 iconic London black cabs lined up alongside a vital support network, including:
- Medical Teams: Doctors, nurses, and the London Ambulance Service on hand for the duration of the trip.
- Technical Support: AA mechanics providing dedicated breakdown assistance.
- Police Escorts: Outriders from the City of London Police and the French Gendarmerie, ensuring safe passage all the way to France.
What makes this event so moving is the selflessness of the London cabbies, who completely volunteer their time, their weekends, and their vehicles. The entire trip is funded by livery companies, corporate sponsors, and private donors. Our own Livery was incredibly proud to sponsor a carriage again this year, and seeing our crest on the side of a cab was an unforgettable moment.
When the convoy officially set off, there wasn’t a dry eye among the spectators. We wish these brave young adventurers and their fantastic drivers a safe, unforgettable weekend of Disney magic.
